Taking place on Saturday 20th August 2016, 06:30 – 17:30

by Colin

It’s time to suit up, strap in and fire up your engines!  Our third Bridgestone Track and Race Day for 2016 is almost here and we will be at the amazing Red Star Raceway which we will be combining with the BMW Centenary Celebrations during an extended lunch break.

Centenary Celebrations

In celebration of BMW 100th birthday, join us with your BMW car on Saturday 20 August 2016 at Red Star Raceway where the track will be closed from 11:00 to 13:00 in order to do the very slow speed parade around the track.  For more details on the parade CLICK HERE.

Bridgestone Track Challenge Championship

This is what you used to know as the Time Trial Championship, and the only thing that has changed is the name. This is open to all drivers from novices to professionals. You can use your road car or a track car- the classes cater for all types.  There will be 3 separate sessions split by track times.  Overtaking in corners is NOT ALLOWED, contact is prohibited.  Race prepared cars are welcome but you are reminded that overtaking in corners is NOT ALLOWED.

2016 TIME TRIAL CLASSES can be downloaded HERE.

Bridgestone Track School

Together with BMW Driving Experience (formerly BMW Driver Training) this is feature for novices and first time drivers. Please note if this is your first time on a race track with us this is mandatory before you can continue with your Time Trial sessions.

The Track School involves a small amount of theory with practical instruction in a BMW Driver Training vehicle. Once the instructor is satisfied with your competency to drive on track and adhere to the correct etiquette, you will be given your certificate and allowed to partake in the time trials.

This is also a great introduction to our track days if you are not quite ready to get on the track on your own in your own car. Please note though that space is limited and preference will be given to members who have booked for both the Track School and Time Trial Sessions. Helmets are also available for hire at R200 for the day. An MSA licence is mandatory if you are taking part in the Track School and Time Trials. If you are just taking part in the Track School, a licence is not necessary but you will be required to sign an indemnity.

Bridgestone Hot Laps

The fee is R100 for 2 laps with a professional driver and will run from 09:00 onward in sessions 2 and down. Long sleeves, long pants and closed shoes are required for these; the minimum age for passengers is 12. Helmets will be provided for passengers.

  •   Track worthy vehicle to pass through scrutineering.
  •   Crash helmet, long sleeved shirt, long pants, closed shoes and gloves
  •   No alcohol, small kids or pets
  •   NB: It is against MSA Rules and Regulations to drive another vehicle that you are not registered in or to allow other drivers to drive your vehicle. If you intend doing this then the additional driver needs to be registered to drive your vehicle prior to the start of the event.

The supplementary regulations for the day can be downloaded HERE.

Time Trial Track Sessions

  •   Cars are will be grouped in 3 separate Time Trial track sessions based on vehicle performance and in most cases driver skill. A session board at the pit exit will indicate the currently running session and the marshals will not let you out if you go out in the incorrect session. You will have your session number on the top right of your windscreen, above the driver’s head.
  •   Cars are set off from the pit exit in 3 second intervals to ensure that you have a clean run and to ensure safety.
  •   No overtaking through corners in all sessions!
  •   Please do not dive bomb or hassle the BMW Driver Training and Bridgestone hot lap cars as they will be full of passengers.
  •   Times are a guideline only. Incidents on track may cause delays.
  •   Time trial sessions will follow in the same number sequence at which they stop before lunch. In other words if session 1 is the last group before the track is closed for lunch, session 2 is the next group that will go out.

UPDATE – 10 AUG 2016 :

Just to avoid any confusion – only cars need to pre-register.  If the cars don’t pre-register and want to join on the day, they will have to pay R50 (to incentivise pre-registration) – so we can trace the people if something goes wrong for example and to help with catering numbers.

The bikes don’t need to pre-register before the time and don’t need to register on the day.
