Mandela Day Initiative
67 RIDERS, 67 MINUTES, 12 SCHOOLS, 2000 PUPILS
Location: George , July 18, 2012
Ride for Mandela. Wednesday 18thJuly.
An initiative by BMW Motorrad in George will see bikers meeting on 18 July on a Ride for Mandela to visit some rural schools in the area and to deliver much needed items such as pencils, pens, rulers, erasers, paper, coloured cardboard, scissors, crayons, old magazines, sellotape and sharpeners – for use by young learners.
18 July is the birthday of former president, Nelson Mandela.
Bikers are invited to participate and, for as little as R15, a big difference can be made in a young child’s life.
Details on where to donate or buy the R15 ‘starter packs’ for the day, will be communicated by BMW Motorrad over the next few weeks. Old magazines and unused stationery items are also most welcome as the kids can never have enough pens and pencils.
Four routes will be covered, starting out from George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn and Knysna where schools along tar and gravel routes have been selected for visits.
Schools near Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, Geelhoutboom, Avontuur and Uniondale and between Geelhoutboom and Mossel Bay will be visited, where more than 2 000 pupils will be reached.
